At least 21 people, including a newly-wed bride, were killed and 23 others injured when a roadways bus they were travelling in fell into the Hazara canal in the district, police said on Monday. The incident occurred late on Sunday when the driver of the bus, which was headed to Delhi from Farukhabad, lost control over the vehicle and it fell into the canal in Pilua area, they said.
A police constable in Mau, Uttar Pradesh, was injured when a car allegedly rammed his motorcycle and dragged it for approximately 5 km while attempting to flee. Police have seized the vehicle and are searching for the driver.
A 45-year-old passenger fell to his death from an air-conditioned Uttar Pradesh roadways bus after he opened its door to spit 'pann' as the vehicle moved through the Purvanchal Expressway. The incident took place on Saturday morning near Bihi village in the Baldirai police station area. The deceased, Ram Jiavan, was a resident of Chinhat area in Lucknow. The bus has been taken to the police station for further investigation and the body has been sent for post-mortem.
